MANILA: The Philippines’ defence minister on Monday (Feb 5) vowed to “strictly implement” the nation’s sovereignty, becoming a member of the refrain of safety officers pledging to defend the nation following secessionist threats made by former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte on Jan 30 referred to as for the independence of his hometown island Mindanao within the southern Philippines as his alliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr disintegrated final week over disagreements round efforts to amend the structure.
“The mandate of the Division of Nationwide Protection is to safe the sovereignty of the state and integrity of the nationwide territory as enshrined within the structure,” Protection Secretary Gilberto Teodoro mentioned in a press release.
“We are going to strictly implement this mandate whether or not externally or internally,” he added.
Teodoro’s remarks echoed comparable statements made by the nationwide safety adviser, who on Sunday, mentioned the federal government won’t hesitate to “use its authority and forces to quell and cease any and all makes an attempt to dismember the Republic”.
